March 20. Maple Syrup Production
On March 20, we joined host Kristin Curtis and her family at Journey's End Farm in Wayne County in Northeast PA for a hands-on field day cabin making maple syrup (
agenda). We gathered wood, tapped trees, collected sap, and watched the syrup boiling in the evaporator. Kristen also demonstrated how the sap is graded.

As a bonus, we toured another part of the farm’s operation, Journey's End Farm Camp, a historic family operation started in 1939, which hosts boys and girls, ages 7 to 12, every summer. The camp, which includes over 200 acres of wood, fields, pastures and gardens, a one-acre pond, and two streams, is home to two families of Curtises and a menagerie of farm animals.
